The First Interview Segment

Here's the first in a series of five interviews. The beginning of this one featured a voice-over by Duncan but no shot of him, so I've done what I can. This is the only instance where the person pictured is NOT the person speaking.

Duncan: (off-camera) "The diversity in the band is something that really helps the band make it what it is."

Phil: "It is strange. You know, we, we do. We come from all different corners of the world."
"You've got two guys from Australia, one guy from New Zealand, two guys from the States...

...all coming from sort of, in a sense, totally different musical backgrounds."
"There's probably but one or two CDs in the whole world five of us can listen to together, you know what I mean?

And uh, musically we're so completely opposite, but somehow we come together."
"Everything that we do, really, has to stem from true friendship. I think when you do a show people see that you're friends. They see that you're having a good time and you can't fake that, you know what I mean? You can't. That's not a show. That's for real."

"You know, we all love each other a lot and we compliment each other.
I think everybody has something in their personality that, that uh...

...you know, will fit, you know.

If it wasn't there...

...there'd be definitely a hole in our...
...in our whole organization."
"We've got a really cool synergy going. And, uh, the creative pool that we have there is quite deep, um, and and, um, it's really, we're really fortunate. It's not really a problem coming up with ideas and song ideas, um, show ideas.

Creative, creativity just seems to, to, to sort of buzz around, which is really great!" "When the Newsboys come together, there's, there's an electricity that happens onstage and it happens every night."

"I can't explain it. And I wish I could. I think if you tried to figure it out, you might break it up."
