The Phil Joel Solo Tour
("Strangely Normal" Tour)Ah, the Strangely Normal tour. My first chance to meet Florence and my first chance to meet Phil. Who could ask for more?!
For anyone who may be wondering what the Glass House looks like (and really, who isn't?), here it is. It seems to be a local magnet for Christian acts. My brother and I have also seen EastWest, Thousand Foot Krutch, Joy Electric, and Starflyer 59 here. It's a teeny-tiny little venue, but that just makes everything seem more personal...
Florence and I didn't get to stand in the very, very front (as evidenced by the heads), but we got pretty close! Major thank-yous to Beth and Kyle who let us cut in with them. Phil brought along a zillion monitors with him. They were all tied into a DVD player and showed awesome video montages behind Phil and his band as they played."Wait!" you're screaming. "Where are the pictures of the show itself?!" Well, we weren't allowed to take pictures of the show, so I couldn't! Sniffle, sniffle, sniffle. My humble apologies. I made up for it at the "Rock the Universe" show and FCD. I took a zillion pictures at each of those! And I'm going to see them again in July, so I'll be adding to the collection then. Please don't hate me!!!
After the show, Phil came out to do a brief meet-n-greet with all of his fans. There weren't too many of us there, so it went fairly quickly. In fact, there were so few people there that Florence and I managed to get back in line after the first time and meet Phil a second time! When we got back up to the front again, Phil made a big show of it. He let his jaw hang open, took a few steps backwards, and asked "You?!?!?!" "Yes, us again." This time around we got photos with him. Yea!!!
Note to anyone who uses a one-use camera: DO NOT TURN IT IN without first clicking off ALL OF THE PHOTOS on the roll!!! I only took about half a roll worth of film and turned in my camera half-way through the roll. Well, when it was processed, someone must have cracked open the camera thinking that the film inside was already rewound. Light hit the film and voila! The bottom portion of my photo was ruined!
Here's Phil's trailer! I chickened out. This is as close to it as I got to it. I think Florence wanted to get closer, but that's what happens when you meet up with a coward, I guess. Poor Florence. She should have gone with someone braver.
This was the first time I had ever met Florence! :) It's not a very good picture of either of us. As Florence has said about another photo, "we're much cuter in real life."Well, ready for more? Media section it is!
