Welcome, welcome. Get ready to be scared to pieces. It's really, really old Newsboys!!! Yup, it's the Newsboys back in the odd year known only as 1991. Scary year. Well, maybe not overall, but in the world of Newsboys, it sure was a scary year! Don't believe me? Well then, check out these photos!
Nice cheesy logo to start out with...![]()
Peter jumping off his drum kit. WEEEE! How come Dunny never does this nowadays?![]()
Vernon Bishop singing his lungs out with his very...blue...guitar. And here's Vernon, Peter, and Cory rockin' out. Check out Cory's keyboard/guitar thingy. Very colorful!![]()
And now for some of the synchronized dancing that the old-school NBs are so well known for. So scary... Meanwhile, John's working on something over there. Just what might that be? Well, say hello to the ooooold spinning drum kit. More on it later.![]()
Peter and John introduce themselves...Peter: Yeah, we started about, about six years ago. Um, we started in a little, I guess, fishing village, um, where we lived. It's called Mooloolaba. And just playing in, like, our garage. We had, like, a little garage and we crammed these four guys in. John James, and myself (Peter Furler), and Sean Taylor, and George Perdikas. And we, um, all just got into this little jam room. We had, like, padding and mattresses everywhere so it wouldn't make any noise. John: Every Saturday. Peter: Every Saturday. John: It was meant to work in theory. Peter: Yeah, it was meant to work in theory, but it didn't because the police kept coming around and taking away all our, our instruments. And, uh, so we just started playing around and doing, like, youth groups and churches and, uh, different places. And it ended up, we had a chance after a couple of years to support a band called White Heart. Um, and uh, so we were, we were playing with White Heart and they saw us play and they thought, "Hey, these guys should come over and play in America!" So they gave us a chance to, uh, come over and, um, play our music over here. And we got signed on an American label and since then we've been playing and playing throughout this excellent country. John: Having a great time. Peter: Yeah.
Isn't that cute? I like how Peter keeps repeating what John says. He seems to do that a lot. I remember him repeating Phil very often in a radio interview. :) The fun thing about this old footage is how THICK Peter's accent is. He's really lost it over the last decade, I guess. It's much, much stronger in this video. Here's a shot of him holding his black-rimmed glasses. You'll see plenty more of those later on...
If you're brave enough, then feel free to continue on to the "Taste and See (Remix)" video. AAAHHH!
