Newsboys....

All 5 Newsboys were attired in black - surprising as the heat in Texas was sweltering as usual for a nice July day. It was very high energy performance. First song, Peter, wearing his black cowboy hat, begins jumping/bouncing up & down - must have been expected as many in the audience quickly followed suit. Looked like lots of folks were repeat concert attendees - many T-shirts from previous tours.

Peter Furler from Australia - vocals & drums; Phil Joel also from the land down under - vocals & bass; Jody Davis from Indiana - mostly guitar with some vocals; Duncan Phillips from New Zealand on drums; Jeff Frankenstein from motor city on the keyboard (and, briefly on vocals)...

Songs performed

* I am Not Ashamed (title cut from Not Ashamed)
* Real Good Thing (from Going Public)
* Spirit Thang (from Going Public)
* Reality (from Take Me to Your Leader - Jeff did a brief version of Funky Town here....talk about retro....)
* Entertaining Angels (Phil took lead on this one from Step up to the Mic)
* Where you belong/Turn your eyes upon Jesus (Jody took lead on the TYEUJ - from Not Ashamed)
* Woo Hoo (Phil took lead on this one - from Step up to the Mic)
* Take me to your leader (title cut from Take Me to Your Leader)
* jam session between Peter & Duncan - they played with the audience & tossed drumsticks out into the audience based on their perception of which side was the loudest....when Jody & Phil came back, they were wearing different clothes....
* Shine (from Going Public)
* then they made us beg for more & came back to sing....
* Step up to the Microphone (title cut from Step up to the Microphone)
* Breakfast (from Take Me to Your Leader)

After some of the negative reviews I'd read recently about the Newsboys, I almost expected to be disappointed in the concert - I'm glad I wasn't. This was my first Newsboys concert. And, quite honestly, it reminded me of some of the
early Petra concerts that I attended - well, let's just leave dates & years & ages out of this review...<grin>

And, I've got to admit when they sang "Reality", I kept expecting to hear elephants as it was modified by one of the jokers at KLTY....It's even referred to in requests as the elephant song...See http://www.newsboys.com for the official scoop on the Newsboyz.

Keep the light burning bright...
